Technical Specifications

Graphic designers (including Snap Printing’s in house designers) do a lot more than just produce great designs – they know a thing or two about getting a document ready for print.

If you have produced a document in-house and want to send it for printing, there are some technical aspects you need to consider.

Page Set Up

The page size of your artwork must be exactly the same size as the finished output you want printed. There must be a minimum 5mm margin between the artwork and the edge of the paper.

If there are any images that need to print to the edge of the paper, you need to allow 3-5mm bleed, so that the image is past the dimensions of the artwork.

Offset Printing

All images and fonts should be supplied with the artwork with the fonts embedded.

Images must be supplied in TIF or JPG format and must be at least 300dpi.

Artwork created in Office programs such as Word or Publisher will not be compatible. They work in RGB format, while offset printing works in CMYK. Files supplied in an Office program need to be manipulated and converted.

If you need specific PMS colours, be sure to convert text and objects to the desired colour in the artwork.

Digital Printing

Resolution must be at least 150 dpi and Vector images must be supplied in EPS format.

Fonts must be supplied in TRUE TYPE or POSTSCRIPT formats. If supplying postscript fonts, ensure that both PFB and PFM files are included (these are print & screen versions of the font).
